What we believe

Hi! It's Caleb.

I'm the pastor here at Cross of Life.

I would shake your hand, but this is the internet...so...

Can I be honest? If you're reading this page, I'm really curious why. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm glad you're here!! This is exactly where I would go on a church's website. But I'm just wondering, what are you hoping to see here?

My guess is that you're hoping to see what is unique about our church. My guess is that if you care about what a church teaches enough to find their "What We Believe" page, then you already know a thing or two about Christianity. And you're wondering if we're going to line up with what you already believe. Well, hate to break it to you, but that's not what this page is going to do.

See, if you're looking for a church that is just going to say exactly what you have already decided is the absolute truth, then you don't actually want a church. A church is a place to learn and to be shaped by what you learn. Now, if you're willing to learn and be shaped by what the Bible actually says, even if it is different than what you feel... Well, then you're in the right place. And I suppose there are those of you reading this page who will believe exactly what we believe already, but for those of you who don't, do you want to just have a "yes-church" that allows you to believe whatever you want to believe, or a church that loves you enough to teach you the truth, even if it's hard?

Look, I love the truth, and I love the Bible, and I want you to know what the Bible says because it is truth, but frankly, I don't know if there's anything I can write on this page that could not be somehow misconstrued or misunderstood because the internet is a terrible place to talk about the Bible. So, my request to you is this: Come talk to me. I'd be glad to pay for your coffee so we can sit down and talk about what the Bible teaches and how Cross of Life teaches that.

Still wondering what is unique about Cross of Life's teaching? Here it is: We are going to teach you exactly how the Bible applies to your own personal life without hiding anything. Our God didn't just drop a magic book out of the sky and expect us to read it. No, the Bible is a collection of true stories about real people who personally interacted with God. We figure that we should teach it to you in the same way.

Hey, let's get together and get coffee sometime, ok? My treat.
